Self-Paced Courses
Each course is self-paced, allowing students to spend extra time when needed to master each lesson concept. Families have the flexibility to plan and adjust study times to fit their schedule.
Student ExperienceEighth grade is a pinnacle year for academic development for a variety of reasons. Students become aware of their personal interests and develop learning habits that they carry on into high school. Acellus Academy’s goal is to cultivate a learning environment that sparks excitement around academics and fuels students’ desire to learn.
Acellus Academy’s eighth graders have more freedom to select what courses they take, which allows them to explore personal interests and deepen their knowledge of the topics they learn in prior courses.
Acellus Academy collaborates with some of the greatest teachers across the country to create lessons and units that keep students on track with their peers who attend traditional school. To ensure students are reaching certain milestones, all courses have key objectives and learning outcomes that students must meet before advancing to more difficult units. In eighth grade, students will:
Since Acellus Academy was founded in Missouri, we also offer a Missouri State History course to middle school students that covers the government and geography in addition to historical events dating back to the area’s earliest civilization in 12,000 B.C. up to modern events.
For eighth grade students to excel in academics, they must have a learning experience that addresses their individual needs. Our courses use tools called Prism Diagnostics and Vectored Instruction that are innovative technologies designed to recognize gaps in a student’s background knowledge and prompt them with special help videos when necessary. Since Acellus Academy courses are self-paced, students can spend extra time on concepts they find challenging, while advancing through lessons that they master easily.
The student interface through the Acellus app is where students access their courses, lessons, and assignments as well as track progress and set goals. The easy-to-use app allows students to “attend” class wherever they have Internet access.
Acellus Academy has an open-enrollment policy, meaning parents can enroll their eighth grade students in online courses year-round rather than being constrained to a certain time frame. Check out our admission process for more information.

Learn MoreAs students are progressing through a course, sometimes they lack the foundational skills needed to successfully complete the material. If students are stuck, Acellus analyzes which foundational concepts they need to review in order to master the grade level concepts they are struggling with. Vectored Instruction is then prescribed to fill in those gaps, going as deep as required to rebuild their foundational understanding, allowing them to move forward in their education.
