3rd Grade Overview
Acellus Academy’s third grade curriculum is carefully designed to teach students in an interesting way that ignites excitement around school and learning. We believe children are naturally curious, so our courses help bolster that curiosity while answering their many questions.
Our online courses focus on the core subjects of mathematics, language arts and reading, science, and social studies. Acellus Academy third graders can enroll in elective courses that focus on coding, engineering, music, and ecology. The online courses of Acellus Academy provide students with a personal learning experience that allows them to progress through the lessons at their own pace.

Subjects Offered in Acellus Academy’s Online 3rd Grade Program
Acellus Academy works with experienced teachers to build curriculum that keeps students on track with their peers. To do this, we outline key learning objectives for each online course. The following are the goals for the third grade core subject courses.
- Language Arts and Reading: In Grade 3 Language Arts and Reading, students further develop their English reading, writing, and speaking skills by studying different types of writing styles and structures. The course focuses on grammar, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling, as well as writing personal narrative, explanatory writing, comparative writing, and more!
- Mathematics: Acellus Academy’s Grade 3 Math course dives deeper into mathematical concepts, as the lessons move away from the fundamentals and start focusing on more complex topics. Third grade students learn multiplication and division, fractions, and geometric concepts, including area, symmetry, and shape classifications.
- Science: Grade 3 Science focuses on life and earth science, while also exploring physics, technology, and astronomy. Acellus Academy science courses use video experiments and examples to demonstrate concepts for students to help them better understand the materials. This allows students to see these scientific concepts come to life before their eyes.
- Social Studies: By third grade, students have a well-rounded understanding of social interactions and community as it relates to family, friends, and school. Grade 3 Social Studies focuses on the broader world, and students begin to learn about industries, producing goods, different governments, and U.S. and world history.
3rd Grade Course Structure
Acellus Academy courses use the Acellus Learning Accelerator to make sure each student has a unique learning experience. The Learning Accelerator is made up of a variety of tools that give students extra assistance when necessary and allows them to move on once they master a concept. This allows students to build off what they learn in previous courses, while moving along in the course work at their own pace.
The structure of Acellus Academy’s online courses involves captivating videos, interactive course materials, and practice problems. Students are tested on the curriculum through quizzes and exams. All courses are accessible through an easy-to-use student interface.
Enrolling Your 3rd Grade Student in Acellus Academy
Acellus Academy offers open enrollment and an easy admissions process for parents and students to register with our online school for the first time. Once parents complete the admissions process, students can start their online courses right away.
Self-Paced
Each course is self-paced, allowing students to spend extra time as needed to master each lesson concept. Families have the flexibility to plan and adjust their schedule as needed.
Year-Round Enrollment
Students may enroll in Acellus Academy at any time during the year. After enrolling, students will start at the beginning of each course and begin making their way toward graduation.

Vectored Instruction®
Filling Foundational Gaps for Student Success
As students are progressing through a course, sometimes they lack the foundational skills needed to successfully complete the material. If students are stuck, Acellus analyzes which foundational concepts they need to review in order to master the grade level concepts they are struggling with. Vectored Instruction is then prescribed to fill in those gaps, going as deep as required to rebuild their foundational understanding, allowing them to move forward in their education.
