Self-paced, engaging, video-based courses that spark your child’s love for learning.
Second Grade Overview
By second grade, students are well-acclimated with learning but are still impressionable and able to learn new concepts quickly. Acellus Academy’s second grade courses focus on further exploring the four core subjects: mathematics, language arts and reading, science, and social studies. Electives are also available in a variety of subjects, include coding, engineering, ecology, and music.
Acellus Academy’s mission is to provide a K-12 education that expands access to career and college opportunities through self-paced learning.
Subjects Offered in Acellus Academy’s Online 2nd Grade Program
Each of Acellus Academy’s online courses has key objectives and learning outcomes. Outlining important milestones for our second grade students keeps them aligned with their peers in terms of the curriculum they are studying. The following are a few important objectives for second graders to achieve before moving to third grade:
- Language Arts and Reading: The goal of Acellus Academy’s second grade language arts and reading course is to build students’ English literary skills of reading comprehension, writing, and knowledge of the different parts of speech.
- Mathematics: Our Grade 2 Math course focuses on notation, linear measurements, mastering addition and subtraction, and introducing basic geometric principles.
- Science: In second grade, students acquire a deeper understanding of topics they learned in first grade, including animals, plants, habitats, weather, and Earth’s resources.
- Social Studies: Acellus Academy’s Grade 2 Social Studies course, expands on the social interactions and community that students learn in kindergarten and first grade. They begin to look at the world from a broader scope and begin to study industries, the United States, and various cultures across the country and world.
The courses are designed so that all students master the concepts in a subject area before moving on to higher-level topics.
2nd Grade Course Structure
Acellus Academy uses an engaging instructional format to teach students fundamentals in writing and reading the English language, applying math concepts, understanding social interactions, and engaging with the natural world. We have created captivating videos and interactive course materials that will keep the attention of even the youngest students.
The Acellus Learning System uses the Learning Accelerator and Prism Diagnostics to provide each student with a unique educational experience. Special help videos and sample problems give students extra practice when necessary, so every first grade student masters the concepts before moving on to more in-depth courses. Practice problems, reviews, and exams give students the opportunity to apply what they learn, while our student interface tracks progress to ensure they are on track with their peers.
Enrolling Your 2nd Grade Student in Acellus Academy
Acellus Academy has an open-enrollment admission policy. We want to make the transition to online school as seamless as possible for parents and students alike. Once parents complete the admissions process, students can begin their coursework right away.
Each course is self-paced, allowing students to spend extra time as needed to master each lesson concept. Families have the flexibility to plan and adjust their schedule as needed.
Students may enroll in Acellus Academy at any time during the year. After enrolling, students will start at the beginning of each course and begin making their way toward graduation.
Filling Foundational Gaps for Student Success
As students are progressing through a course, sometimes they lack the foundational skills needed to successfully complete the material. If students are stuck, Acellus analyzes which foundational concepts they need to review in order to master the grade level concepts they are struggling with. Vectored Instruction is then prescribed to fill in those gaps, going as deep as required to rebuild their foundational understanding, allowing them to move forward in their education.
